GM’s patent process could be a breakthrough in the automotive industry, as it would allow for touch screens to be fingerprint and smudge-free without the need for a human to manually clean them. The process works by using light from micro-LEDs, which are invisible to the eye but can react with a photocatalyst built into the coating of the display. This reaction erases any smudges on a screen by drawing on water found in the air. What’s unique about this process is that it works in low light conditions, such as at night or behind tinted glass.
