Sea rubber, the pest, the main seas of Turkey polluted, expanding
Scenes in the Black Sea showed the spread of sea gum (sea slime) after it spread in the Sea of Marmara, despite strong efforts by the government to stop it. The opposition blamed the government for not doing enough to cut down on pollution.
On Wednesday morning, fishermen in Vatsa County in the Black Sea state reported seeing a lot of chewing gum in the water off the port of Yalköy. This makes experts worry that the gum will spread out a lot, like it did in the Black Sea, if the Sea of Marmara die does not take the right precautions soon.
Sea Slime
Sea gum, which is sometimes called “sea slime,” is an excess of phytoplankton, which are tiny algae. The different bacteria that make up the thick, slimy, sticky layer are the result of pollution, calm seas, and global warming’s effects on sea temperature.
When asked about the danger of sea rubber, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country would protect part of the Marmara Sea and use it to clean it up.
Erdogan promised to clean up the Sea of Marmara by making the whole area a protected area, putting the newest technology into our sewage treatment plants, and doing everything else that needs to be done. He said this in a speech on Wednesday to his party’s parliamentary group.
Erdogan also said that the AKP group in parliament plans to set up a committee to look into the issue of sea rubber in the Sea of Marmara.
To stop a rubber epidemic in the Sea of Marmara, Turkey started its biggest and most thorough sea cleanup effort yet on Tuesday.
A number of government departments, NGOs, and coastal communities want to work together with the federal states to carry out the government’s 22-point action plan to get rid of the extra gum.
Mehmet Aksener, head of the opposition Good Party, said that the government was not doing enough to protect the environment.
On Wednesday, Aksener told the parliamentary group of her party, “There is a government that does not protect their trees, woods, and seas.” I told you that there would be an earthquake in the Sea of Marmara and Istanbul. We will not let that happen. The Istanbul Canal Project is a cheap canal. “This project is not a project; it is a plan to steal.”
It was brought up that the “sea slime” problem in the Sea of Marmara was not new because it started in 2007 and could only be fixed in two years.
“When it reappeared, alarmed scientists and competent officials, especially the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. What has the Ministry done?” Aksener asked over and over again about the Erdogan government’s slow response to the problem.
People have also said bad things about the government for insisting on building the Istanbul Canal, even though some people think it could hurt the environment.
