Secretary of “Islamic Cooperation” calls for fighting terrorism and extremism and tackling hate speech and Islamophobia

His Excellency the Secretary General of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, addressed the opening session of the Arab Summit in its 31st session, hosted by the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria on 1 and 2 November 2022 in Algiers, underlining the depth of the links between the Organization and the League of Arab States and the principles, values, points in common and the challenges that unite them, expressing the organisation’s aspiration to strengthen cooperation, solidarity, coordination and integration between the two organizations.

The Secretary General stated: “The Palestinian question constitutes the central and unifying question of the Arab and Islamic systems of joint action, in what testifies to the continuing closure of the horizon of a political solution and the escalation of Israeli attacks on the Palestinian people, their land and their holy places, in particularly the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, which threatens dire repercussions that could further deteriorate the situation.This requires unifying positions and strengthening efforts on the international stage to implement resolutions of international legitimacy, provide international protection for the Palestinian people and uphold their rights legitimate rights, including the right to embody the sovereignty of one’s state at the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He added that the organization supports international and regional efforts to find lasting political solutions to the various crises and current challenges in the Arab and Islamic world.

The Secretary General stressed that the fight against terrorism and extremism and hate speech and Islamophobia in the world represent the most important challenges facing Arab and Islamic societies and require intensified efforts, strengthening cooperation at the level regional and international and consolidation of values. of tolerance, understanding and peaceful coexistence.

He stressed that the organization looks forward to stepping up coordination between the Organization for Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States to help solve common problems, strengthen cooperation in the economic, scientific and cultural sectors and emancipate of women and young people, expressing its aspiration that the Algerian presidency of the Arab Summit will give a new impetus to Arab-Islamic cooperation.
