Set up in the new team mode of Tetris 99

Nintendo added Team Battle Mode in their latest Tetris 99 update, but it’s not exactly what you’d expect from a Battle Royale.

Instead of uniting into teams of two or four, players pick one out of four teams at the start of a Tetris 99 game. Then you play as usual Tetris 99 and the last squad wins. Smaller teams in Tetris 99 will receive more power to make up for the lack of players, Nintendo said in its press release.

Players who have left prematurely switch to onlooker mode and cheer on their friends. They also gain experience points when they stay nearby.

A new “password-based matchmaking feature” allows players to easily find friends to team up for matches and regular matches.

Other features added with the December 10 update include “new button configuration options and new user emblems”. Similarly, players can now spend 30 Tetris 99 tickets to purchase themes from previous events, such as the original Tetris, Splatoon, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and Super Kirby Clash themes previously available.

Everyone with Tetris 99 and Nintendo Switch Online receives the update for free.
