Sleepy Hollow’ Sets Ultra HD Release Date

This September, the supernatural horror film Sleepy Hollow, directed by Tim Burton, will be racing its way onto 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, allowing you to add a legendary story to your Steelbook collection. After winning the Academy Award for Best Art Direction following its release in 1999, Sleepy Hollow’s 4K announcement has been a long time coming, and, while no specific Steelbook design has been revealed at this time, we expect that the cover will be an eye-catching piece of artwork. Take in the terror like you’ve never experienced it before when the ghoulish story of Ichabod Crane rides into your home theater. Sleepy Hollow won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction following its release in 1999.

In this version of the classic tale, derived from the eerie short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” written by Washington Irving, Burton gave the story his distinctive spin, making it even more sinister. Johnny Depp plays the role of Ichabod Crane, a New York City police officer who is sent upstate to the teeny-tiny town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a string of murders believed to have been committed by an entity known only as the Headless Horseman. The film was directed by Tim Burton and was released in 2009. The characters from Irving’s book are all adapted for the film, but many of them, like Depp’s Crane, have had their motivations and histories rewritten to fit the film’s narrative. In addition to Depp, Christopher Lee, Miranda Richardson, Christopher Walken, Ray Park, Michael Gambon, Casper Van Dien, Richard Griffiths, Jeffrey Jones, Michael Gough, Marc Pickering, and Ian McDiarmid are featured in the film as supporting cast members. Ricci co-stars with Depp as Katrina Van Tassel, the love interest of Ichabod, and the cast also includes Christopher Walken.

Since Johnny Depp rode into town in Tim Burton’s classic from 1999, the story of Sleepy Hollow was given a makeover in the 2010s as a Fox series with the same name. At the beginning of the summer, it was announced that Lindsey Beer would be taking the helm at Paramount to bring horror fans yet another iteration of Irving’s ghostly fable. The film is based on Irving’s “The Haunting of Hill House.” Having previously established a name for herself in the world of writing, where she holds credits in projects such as Sierra Burgess is a Loser and the forthcoming live-action remake of Bambi, as well as the ever-elusive Star Trek 4, Beer will make her debut as a director with the Pet Sematary prequel that is expected to be released later on in this year.
