Smyths has made a big update to its PS5 stock page, revealing that there is still room for another PlayStation restock during April.

That’s good news for console hunters in the UK, who have been stuck with a paltry choice of buying options.

Some stock has appeared in brick and mortar stores, but it appears that many expected stock drops for April have been delayed.

This has been blamed on various issues with the global supply chain, which has left UK gamers unable to buy a console of their choice.

Things were expected to pick up further into 2021 we get, but it appears that buying a PS5 this year will remain challenging over the coming weeks.

The good news is that Smyths Toys has updated its store pages to confirm that PS5 Digital Edition stock will be available in April.

However, while the Digital Edition will be back, the Disc-drive version of the PlayStation 5 isn’t returning until May.

This means some gamers will want to wait until next month before purchasing a next-gen console from Smyths.

For those wondering the differences between the consoles, here’s the official description from Sony:

“The only difference between the PS5 console and the PS5 Digital Edition console is the inclusion of an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive in the PS5 console. The PS5 Digital Edition console does not feature a disc drive.

“The PS5 console features an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive that will allow you to play PS5 Blu-ray disc games and PS4 Blu-ray disc games, as well as play video from 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs, standard Blu-ray discs, and DVDs.

“The PS5 Digital Edition console does not have an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive. PS5 Digital Edition console owners will be able to buy PS5 and PS4 games from PlayStation Store or access games via PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now (an ongoing paid subscription is required for each, sold separately).”

Meanwhile, PS5 stock from GAME is not expected t arrive until May, with supply delays cited as the problem.

Knowing that more PlayStation stock is coming is important, but console hunters should also know the best ways to get stock from each platform.

Here are a few examples of how best to try and buy a PlayStation 5 console from leading UK retailers:

ARGOS: The Argos website is notorious for crashing and being unable to complete purchases when site traffic is high. Stock trackers suggest using the mobile Argos app and keeping an eye on local store listings.

AMAZON UK: Amazon UK runs better under strain but still comes with a few kinks worth mentioning. Having an account set up with your card details is a good start, and gamers should also try adding a console to their wishlist before checking out.

GAME: Game is a UK retailer that offers the most regular stock updates for PS5 consoles. However, console hunters have been warned to use Guest Checkout, as this option is less likely to crash when completing a purchase.

Other retailers worth keeping an eye on this week include Currys and its Priority Pass, and BT.
