Sony establishes new production line in Brazil for manufacturing PlayStation 5 game discs: A boost for game preservation in Latin America
Sony has opened a brand new production line in Brazil to manufacture physical PlayStation 5 game discs. This production will take place at Sony’s cutting-edge facility located in the Manaus Free Trade Zone in Northern Brazil, an area where special fiscal incentives apply.
The facility, originally built by Sony in partnership with Solutions 2 GO, a multinational entertainment, electronics, and accessories company, has been producing games on discs for distribution in Brazil and other Latin American countries. While previously limited to other PlayStation consoles, the facility has now been upgraded to support PS5 games up to 100GB in size, including anticipated titles like God of War Ragnarök.
Miguel Cunha, senior director of PlayStation Latin America, expressed Sony’s gratitude for the support of the Brazilian community and announced the production of PlayStation 5 physical discs in Brazil. He also mentioned that Sony Interactive Japan experts worked in Brazil for weeks to ensure a smooth production process by installing, programming, and training local staff.
In addition, Sony’s commitment to producing physical games for Latin America aligns with the recent release of the redesigned ‘PS5 Slim,’ which includes a removable disc drive. This move is seen as a significant step towards game preservation for players in the region.
