South Korea and Japan said Wednesday that Pyongyang had launched a new missile believed to be ballistic.
The South Korean military said the North launched a ballistic missile off its east coast, while Japanese border guards said North Korea launched what was believed to be a ballistic missile.
According to reports from the South Korean army, North Korea has launched at least one ballistic missile in the last test of Pyongyang, after a launch record earlier this month.
“North Korea has launched an unidentified ballistic missile towards the East Sea,” also known as the Sea of Japan, the joint army chiefs of staff in Seoul said.
Japan also confirmed the launch, with the government tweeting that Pyongyang had “launched what it suspected was a ballistic missile.”
The launch comes as the United States counts the votes in the mid-term elections, which the Seoul intelligence agency had warned in earlier would have been an appropriate time for Kim Jong Un to lead a test long-awaited nuclear power.
