Southern Charm star Kathryn Dennis loves the holidays. However, spending her first Christmas without her mother, Allison Calhoun Dennis, made the 28-year-old feel serious nostalgia and a feeling of loss.
Allison – a descendant of John C. Calhoun, the seventh vice president of the United States – died on August 7 at the age of 59 after a prolonged illness. Kathryn went on Twitter this week to remember her mother after finding an old photo of Allison with her father, Luke Dennis.

“I just found this photo of mom and dad … The resemblance is crazy!”, Tweeted Kathryn. “Man I miss her.”
The mother of two told People magazine in April that she was “incredibly close” to her mother, and she also described Allison as her “best friend.” She explained that her mother had stuck with her a lot, and she didn’t know what she would do without her.
Allison battled cancer for a year and a half, and eventually moved in with Kathryn during her illness. Kathryn took care of her mom during this time, but Allison also helped her grandchildren, Kensie, 5 and Saint, 4. Kathryn called her mom “great” and added that she is the best mom that ‘she can hope.
Kathryn spent her first Thanksgiving without Allison at the home of her business partner, Donna Steele, in North Carolina, and said the celebration would be huge because Steele has a large family.
“You know, when your mom is gone, you have to invent new traditions,” said Kathryn.
She has yet to reveal her Christmas plans, and her children may not be with her after finalizing her custody agreement with Thomas Ravenel. The former couple agreed to share joint legal and physical custody of Kensie and Saint, but Ravenel is the primary caretaker.
Kathryn Dennis says she feels good to finally be able to move on after the long custody battle. She said she felt like they were at a standstill, and her whole life was over. However, now that it’s all over, Kathryn feels like a huge weight has been lifted.
New episodes of Southern Charm will return to Bravo in the spring of 2020.
