Spain modifies one of its most famous warships

The media reported that Spain decided to make modifications to one of the most famous warships of its fleet.

“The Spanish government has approved a project to modernize and replace the engines of the large military landing ship Juan Carlos 1, one of the most famous warships of the Spanish army,” the military website Infodefensa said in a statement.

According to the publication, “the ship’s engines have failed several times since 2010, so the management of the Spanish Navy almost two years ago decided to conduct a study on this issue, and it was decided to allocate funds to replace these engines, and the project could cost 30 million Euro”.

The website states that Spain has not yet officially announced the date for the start of work on replacing the engines on the ship and retesting it, but experts expect that the process of upgrading and retesting the ship will take more than a month.

The length of this ship is 230 m, width 32 m, displacement 26,000 tons. In each task, it can travel 9,000 nautical miles. Its main crew consists of 261 people. It can also carry 900 soldiers and 25 men. AV-8B, F-35B attack aircraft and 12 NH90 multipurpose helicopters.
