Spam to protect them Facebook users complain

In early March, a group of Facebook users received a spam-type email titled “Your account requires advanced security from Facebook Protect.”

“This is a reminder to activate Facebook Protect by March 17, 2022. You will then be prevented from accessing your account until you enable it,” the email reads.

The email prompts users to activate Facebook Protect by clicking on a link in the email.

Meta announced in December that it was starting to require high-risk users to secure their accounts with two-factor authentication. With the program in expansion in more than 50 countries by the end of the year.

It should do things like make sure these accounts are monitored for hacking threats and protected by 2FA.
According to the company, Facebook Protect is a security program for people who could be targeted by malicious hackers, such as human rights defenders, journalists and government officials. As of December, around 1.5 million accounts had Facebook Protect enabled.

The email sent by the company from security@facebookmail.com looks like a fairly common form of spam, so many people are likely to ignore it. But the email was real. The first deadline for many people was Thursday, March 17th.

And the notification says: turn on Facebook Protect to unlock your account. Account closed on March 17, 2022. We have taken this precaution to protect your account while enabling additional security measures.

Facebook has closed people’s accounts for not activating the protection function

People are now unable to access their accounts via the platform and are having problems with the process the company has introduced to recover accounts.

It appears that those who have not activated Facebook Protect before the deadline receive a message explaining why they cannot log in to their account and offer to help them run Facebook Protect.

There have also been a number of complaints on Twitter and others social network in about the blocking of access to their accounts by people even if in possession of data. Some say text-based 2FA doesn’t work.

Others complained that they were unable to complete the activation process even before the deadline and were therefore effectively banned from their accounts.
