Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most anticipated games for the PlayStation 5, so there has been much talk about when it will come out. In an age when game delays are common, it was smart of Insomniac not to give a specific date for the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Instead, they gave a wide range of possible release dates, which gave them time to work on the game without letting fans down by promising launch dates that couldn’t be met.
When Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was first shown off at the PlayStation Showcase in September 2021, it needed to be clarified when it would come out. This was narrowed down, though, when PlayStation and Insomniac said in December 2022 that the superhero game would come out in the fall of 2023. Since then, the developer has stuck to this release window in its press, but many fans were hoping that the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, where Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was heavily rumored to make an appearance, would give a firm release date for the game.
Spider-Man 2’s Release Date
Even though the PlayStation Showcase had a lot of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 footage, including almost 15 minutes of Insomniac’s take on characters like Kraven the Hunter and Miles and Peter’s new gameplay abilities thanks to the symbiote, it didn’t give a specific release date. But the footage has made people much more excited, and many have taken to social media to guess when in Fall 2023 the game will come out.
Spider-Man games from Insomniac have always come out in the Fall of their respective years. Marvel’s Spider-Man came out in September of 2018, and its sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, came out in November 2020, when the PlayStation 5 came out.
Tony Todd Previously Hinted At A September Release
Tony Todd, who plays Venom, one of the most popular Spider-Man villains in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, may have given away the game’s release date in March 2023. In a tweet he deleted, he said that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will come out in September, with marketing for it starting in August. Todd has talked a lot about how excited he is to play Venom in the upcoming game and has talked about it in several interviews. Insomniac hasn’t confirmed this window yet, but the fact that the actor deleted his tweet is the best sign that he may have said something he shouldn’t have.
If Todd’s comments turn out to be true, Marvel’s Spider-Man game will come out in September, just like in the past. This will please fans who want to play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 immediately. Since the first Marvel Spider-Man came out at the beginning of its Fall window and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales came out at the end of the season in November, the next one may aim for a spot in the middle and come out in October 2023 instead.
If the marketing push starts in August, it might be too close to the September release date to make much of a stir. There’s a chance that this marketing push started before the PlayStation Showcase, which makes September a likely release month. Fans can still be sure that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will come out this year, even if neither Insomniac nor Sony has confirmed it yet.
