Starfield: A Review of Performance and Tips for Optimization on PC
Starfield overall released in good condition on PC especially if on compares it to releases of other Bethesda games. But many players have still reported some performance issues, especially with FSR. Don’t worry, car we have the solution for get the most out of the RPG while avoiding the hassle related to the FSR.
FSR isn’t bugged on Starfield…it just doesn’t work at all like it does on all other games
THE FSR, or FidelityFX Super Resolution, is an upscaling technology that should improve the visual quality and performance of Starfield. However, some players have found that the FSR was doing the opposite, lowering their FPS! In reality, there is no “FSR bug” like on can read it sometimes, but Bethesda decided to do things completely differently than others, which obviously creates confusion. Instead of offering several presets like in other games (such as “quality, balance, performance”), the Starfield’s FSR acts as a kind of anti-aliasing, and requires thaton determine a rendering resolution manually. If you just put a render resolution of 100%, then activate the FSR, indeed you will lose FPS (which is totally counter-productive for such a technology).
Fortunately, there is a trick to get around this problem. start with disable FSR then set your graphics settings on “low preset”. That will automatically reactivate the FSR, but this time it will actually increase performance. On the side of the render resolution, it seems 75% is the correct setting for a balance between graphics and performance, with the FSR. This trick works both with AMD and Nvidia graphics cards.
Already a mod for Nvidia’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS
According to rumours, Bethesda is already working on a patch to offer players the presets they know in the other games for the FSR. Waiting for, on can only advise you to follow the previous instructions in order to increase your framerate with the FSR. As a reminder, FSR is similar to Nvidia’s DLSS (or son Intel equivalent, the XeSS), another upscaling technology, but DLSS is not yet available in Starfield. The FSR renders the game at a lower resolution, then scales it to your resolution native while filling in the missing details. It works with a variety of graphics cards, including those from Intel and Nvidia. DLSS, on the other hand, offers similar or even better performance, but is limited to Nvidia cards. We already told you about it in a news previous, Nvidia’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS are available as a plugin thanks to a mod already available for Starfield, “Starfield Upscaler”.
Other tips to increase the performance of Starfield on PC
In addition to this FSR tip, here are some additional tips to optimize your performance on Starfield. Make sure you update your graphics drivers this seems like a bit of stupid and useless advice, but on reminds him car Nvidia and AMD have released new drivers following the release of Starfield. By adjusting some parameters such as shadows, volumetric lighting and motion blur at lower levels, you can also get smoother performance without sacrificing visual quality too much. Finally, be careful because dynamic resolution active automatically when changing graphic presets, which can be annoying. Better keep it constant resolution and adjust quality settings for an optimal gaming experience on Starfield.
Starfield officially releases tomorrow on PC and Xbox Series.
