Stephen F. Austin’s hero Nathan Bain severely hit Hurricane Dorian

Stephen F. Austin’s Nathan Bain entered the national lead on Tuesday after his stunning last-minute layup that led the Lumberjacks to a giant upset over No. 1 Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Bain was interviewed shortly after the victory and held back tears when asked about his Bahamian family. Bain’s family was affected by Hurricane Dorian, which swept the Bahamas and the east coast in late August and early September and is widely regarded as the worst natural disaster in Bahamas history.

“I’m really trying not to get emotional. You know my family lost a lot of years this year – I won’t cry on TV – my family lost a lot this year and I’m just playing this game for them, you know,” Bain said.

Stephen F. Austin’s compliance staff has organized an NCAA-compatible GoFundMe page for the Bain family on September 17th.

“Not only did the Bain family see almost everything of value destroyed by Hurricane Dorian, Bain’s father – a minister – was watching his church suffer extreme damage from the storm,” the GoFundMe page says.

Donations have been piled up for Bain’s family after Stephen F. Austin’s victory was final. By the time of writing, it had reached $ 6,611 from its $ 25,000 goal. Bain, a senior guard, posted an average of four points per game for the Lumberjacks on Tuesday. Became a complete waiter last season and recorded 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in Tuesday’s win over Duke.

“It was for my family back home in the Bahamas,” Bain said. “I just want to make my country proud and my whole team is behind me.”
