You had an unusual start until boxing?
I played professionally football, up until six years ago. I was over in Hong-Kong with South China. I had an ankle then injury and was told I would never do that play football again.
When I broke the ligaments in my ankle, me took 12 months off, and I went up up to 133 kg. I came home and joined the local gym, just get fit.
what was your first experience of amateur boxing?
I was still overweight, but I stopped the man in the second round.
I can just remember the atmosphere of the place. It was in An social club and there were probably about 150 but to be there it felt like i was walking out in front of 52,000 in St James’ Park.
I remember the buzz and the adrenaline rush, and I thought, ‘This is what I… want to do, this is where I need to be.’
Can you become Newcastle’s? boxing hero?
ID card like to hope so. I wouldn’t, I wouldn’t have given up all i have given up, if I didn’t believe in myself.
When I in the England squad came, I gave up work and was sponsored. I’ve lost relationships, I haven’t been drinking in six year. I was on a bachelor party, drinking water in Prague.
If I didn’t believe in myself and have the people around me who believed in me, it wouldn’t be me in the sports.
What sets you apart from other heavyweights?
Am I the most technical? gifted heavyweight out there? New. But I can guarantee when you’re doing six rounds of sparring, I’ll do eight. If you do 30 push-ups, I’ll do 35. I always think psychologically that I am one step forward of whoever I’m going to meet.
I have the ability. I am 1.80″. I am work good on the back foot, me work good on the front foot, and I know l hit hard. I’ve seen it in spar. l know when I land, you go to sleep.
If you’re going to try me in to bring sleep, I’ve never been there down yet. that is in sparring, that is in fight.
When did you share the ring with Anthony Joshua?
His cousin contacted met me on [about sparring] on social media and he said, ‘We’re coming’ up to the Fury fight.’ This was before it all failed, for Usyk.
I went down for three days. Anthony and Rob McCracken were in touch then met picked me up to say I’ll be there of the full camp. But unfortunately I’m not Usyk of course, I’m not a left leg, 15stone, so that didn’t happen.
But to hear from Anthony and Rob McCracken it was a fantastic spar and you are invited to camp and we really enjoyed it urges you on. It was fantastic experience.
What are your title ambitions?
Within 18 months I will have want an English title of an intertitle. Within two years I want that British. If not two years, I want it earlier.
only i can throw this away and I will make sure that I won’t do it. The faster I can be out there, the faster I can show what I stand for, the faster I can get these title fights.
Can you explain your tattoos?
i’m covered in Disney tattoos. I am just me. Nothing will ever change, wherever I end up up, I am just me.
I have Lion King, Little Mermaid, Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast. There will be more come!
And your nickname?
USSR Robinson is my boxing nickname. Actually when I went on a trip, everyone was just like”It’s Ivan Drago.”
I keep asking my mom, ‘What’s going on? on?’ I don’t look like anything like my daddy, i don’t look like my mother.
Dolph Lundgren must get in because he owes me some birthday presents and Christmas presents. I keep reaching him out against him, but he wants nothing to do with the.
I will be in Expendables 24 and Fast and the Furious 42 by the time I met retire. I’m watching forward towards it.
