Streamer Creates Interactive Widget for Twitch Chat to Play Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Songs

A Twitch streamer has created a widget that allows his chat to play songs from The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.

Twitch user Nutty created the widget which reads user commands from the Twitch chat, and then plays the in-game Ocarina from the game.

“I spent all day making this and I hope to God it was worth it,” said Nutty. If the Twitch chat is successful in typing out one of the songs from the game, Link will appear on the screen, and play it.

“I really went to excessive detail on this, I even made the friggin buttons myself. I made the PNG of the buttons, they didn’t exist, I had to make them,” said Nutty.

The clip, which has been viewed over 1 million times on Twitter, has gone viral with other large streamers asking Nutty to share this widget or to give more information on how he made it, in order to create their own.

The most well-known instance of the Twitch chat interacting with a video game is Twitch plays Pokemon, a live stream that saw the Twitch chat control Pokemon Red.

Starting on February 12, 2014, the stream would go on to attract concurrent viewership of around 80,000. It’s been estimated that over 1.2 million users participated in the event.  The stream eventually completed the game in 16 days and 9 hours.
