Strong earthquake hits near Acapulco, buildings sway in Mexico City

AN powerful earthquake near the resort in the Pacific ocean city of acapulco on Tuesday night, making buildings rock and rock in Mexico City nearly 200 miles away.

The US Geological Survey said the quake was tentative in magnitude of 7.0 and centered was centered 17 kilometers (about 10 miles) northeast of Acapulco.

There were no direct reports from the earthquake area.

In Mexico City the ground shook for almost a minute in some parts of the capital, but was less clear in other components. Some people cleared their buildings briefly, but went the fastest back inside on a rainy night.

Mexico City authorities said there were no early reports of significant damage in the cityeven though they said the electricity was out out in some neighborhoods.
