She recently walked the red carpet at the Emmy Awards for her beautiful act in the Lust Stories anthology. Being the only Indian to have displayed an Iris Ven Herpen creation from its Hypnosis collection, Radhika Apte sent pioneering waves during the event. We met his stylist, Pranay, to find out what was behind this iconic look and acquired rich style ideas in the market…
How would you describe Radhika’s personal style?
Clean, minimalist and classic.
What would it take to create a look for someone like her?
I come from maximalist thinking. I have always been inspired by Italian fashion. I don’t understand minimalism. So when it comes to styling someone, who is essentially so minimal, we have to stay balanced. We go clean and minimal with her hair and makeup, while we keep her accessories and her dress irresistible. So it’s 50-50 of the two.
What brought her look for the Emmys together?
Radhika and I first saw the dress in New York two days before the event. When she tried it, it seemed so perfect. It is rare when an outfit appears so complete that it needs nothing else. Radhika felt the same. I remember that Radhika had retained her hair that day. She looked so beautiful with a clean face. It was at this point that I suggested that she associate a ring with. If you see the pictures, you can’t notice it because the ring goes so well with the dress. But it is a beautiful orange stone ring that goes into a yellow sapphire. It is unique because there are these tiny stones assembled in flower. Even his shoes were the same color. Radhika mentioned that she didn’t like to accessorize her outfits unnecessarily. But by the time the ring arrived and I asked Radhika to wear it, it looked so beautiful. It suited her well and she wore the ring before wearing the dress. The last thought before we left the room was whether to give him higher heels or stick to what we had. We ended up with what we had.
And her look after the party? She went with her signature classic style.
It is important to give a personality a certain aspect – which is glamorous. But their comfort also means a lot. If they are not comfortable and even if the outfit is not suitable for the event, I end up moving away. Radhika liked the combination but believed it was not appropriate for an after party where she would be alone. She stressed that if she had to go to the bathroom, she would have to open it. It would have been tedious. In practice, this was not the best option. We had another outfit, which was great, in its comfort space and more dramatic in terms of the sleeves. He had a plunging neckline with padded shoulders. the upper thigh was risky but that’s what made it sexy. The descending portion was shimmering. I gave her Parker shoes, which had a diamond brooch. We forced her to continue with the same makeup and the same hair because it was right after the main event. We didn’t have much time to change it. In addition, it went well with the outfit. We did not feel the need to add jewelry. It was just about comfort.
Her look is memorable because she was the first to wear the creation of designer Iris Ven Herpen. Tell us about this collaboration.
Radhika is the first Indian actor to walk on Emmy’s red carpet. So we didn’t want her to wear anything conventional. We wanted it to be pissed off. It was also the first time that Radhika attended an international red carpet of this level. So we wanted to create a strong impact. We are extremely grateful for the response we have received globally. At first, we were afraid because it was a huge risk for an Indian to wear something like this. It was great that Radhika trusted us. It was always on our mind not to dress it with something conventional or seen before. Therefore, the brand and the dress worked.
