Sudan army prepared to prolong peace agreement with prompt assistance

Sudanese Military Ready to Extend Ceasefire with Rapid Support Forces

On Sunday, the Sudanese military announced its readiness to extend the ceasefire with the Rapid Support Forces.

Commitment to Ceasefire Agreement

The Sudanese military has affirmed its commitment to the short-term ceasefire agreement signed in Jeddah on May 20.

Saudi Arabia and the United States on Sunday called for an extension of the ceasefire agreement, which helped bring some calm to the clashes that erupted six weeks ago between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces, but it did not lead to the delivery of much humanitarian aid to civilians.

Conflict and Displacement

The conflict that broke out on April 15 caused the capital to fall in fierce battles and left it reeling from lawlessness and disrupted services, displacing more than 1.3 million people from their homes and threatening to destabilize the region.

Expected End of Ceasefire

The truce reached with Saudi and American mediation in Jeddah is expected to end tomorrow evening, and the initial agreement was that it would last for a week. The two countries are monitoring the truce, which has been violated several times, from afar.

Call for Extension and Humanitarian Aid

Riyadh and Washington have called on the army and rapid support forces to “continue the discussion to reach an agreement on the extension of the ceasefire”. And on Sunday they claimed in a joint statement that, although “the agreement is not complete, the extension will facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid that the Sudanese people need”.

“In the absence of an agreement to extend the current ceasefire, it remains the duty of both sides to meet their short-term commitment and declare their commitment to protect civilians in Sudan,” they added.

Readiness to Continue Talks

The Rapid Support Forces have announced their full readiness to continue talks “to discuss the possibility of reaching a renewal of the ceasefire agreement and humanitarian agreements”. commitment of the other party to proceed or not with the renewal of the agreement”.
