Suspension of the functions of the president of the French Football Federation until the completion of an investigation into his statements about Zidane

London: Noel Le Graet has been suspended as president of the French Football Federation, days after he attacked former international star Zinedine Zidane. Le Graet, who faces numerous allegations about his personal behavior, has agreed to retire from his duties in a meeting with the Executive Committee, in pending the outcome of an investigation in course by the Ministry of Sport. And the French Football Federation said in its statement: “Noel Le Graet has decided, in agreement with the executive office of the federation, through a meeting held today in Paris, to withdraw from his duties as president of the federation until the completion of the investigations by the Ministry of sport, in awaiting the analysis of the results of the investigation by the executive committee of the federation”. And the British news agency (BA Media) reported that Le Graet, 81, apologized to former French captain Zidane after admitting his statements about the former Real Madrid manager were inappropriate. Zidane’s name has been strongly associated with Didier Deschamps’ succession as France national team manager, but Le Graet said in statements to Radio “Monte Carlo” that he has not received any calls from the former French star, adding: “I don’t know, it doesn’t matter, he can go wherever he wants”. Deschamps, who led the French national team to victory at the 2018 World Cup and then finished second in the tournament in Qatar renewed his two-year contract last month, but Le Graet’s attitude towards Zidane has diminished. Kylian Mbappé tweeted on Twitter, expressing his support for what he called a legend, while Patrick Anton, head of the French Football Federation’s ethics committee, called on the president of the federation to resign. Zidane is in France, on manque pas de respect à la légende as me ça… 🤦🏽‍♂️ — Kylian Mbappé (@KMbappe) January 8, 2023 (DBA)
