Sweden starts production of new generation submarines

The military website Naval News has announced that Sweden has begun developing new military submarines for its fleet.

A post on the site read: “Swedish shipyard Saab Kockums recently hosted a ceremony marking the start of assembly of the hull of the Blekinge submarine, the first A26-class submarine designed for the country’s Navy. Veronica attended the ceremony. Votz, Project A26 Program Manager at the Department of Logistics of the Swedish Armed Forces, Head of Naval Programs of the Swedish Army Patrick Hort, Saab Kockum CEO Lars Tosman and Commander of the Swedish Navy Fredrik Linden.

The website states that the Swedish Ministry of Defense has signed agreements to acquire two submarines of the aforementioned type, and it is expected that the army will receive the first of them in 2027, and the second submarine will be delivered in 2028.

The length of each of the Blekinge submarines is about 65 m, and its displacement is equivalent to 2000 tons. This submarine can operate under water in missions lasting 18 days and carry a crew of 26 people. These submarines are armed with torpedoes of various calibers and marine guided robots .
