Taiwan’s president orders domestic-made naval warship

SU’AO, Taiwan (AP) — The President of Taiwan oversaw the commissioning of An new in own country made naval warship thursday as part of the island’s plan to encourage indigenous people defense capacity amid heightened tensions with China.

President Tsai Ing-wen spoke at a naval base in su’ao, on the east coast of the island, and says the ship “proves that” on the path become independent in national defenseno matter what difficulties arise, we can overcome them one by means of one.”

The ship known as the Ta Jiang and nicknamed a “carrier killer” was built by Lung Teh Shipbuilding Co., a Taiwanese company. The ship is designed to have air defense capabilities and can carry anti-ship missiles.

It is the first of six of its kind of that in command of the navy will be carried out.

Tsai has made boosting Taiwan’s domestic defense industry a priority. She pushed military aviation industry with the production of new trainer jets and yells for the development of more advanced systems using the high-tech industries.

On Sunday, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army sent 19 fighter jets to the southwestern part of Taiwanese air defense identification zone, the island’s defense ministry said.

In August, the PLA live attack exercises with a team of fighter jets, anti-submarine aircraft and combat ships.
