Apple to Introduce Passwordless Login with Passkey Allocation
Apple’s latest updates, iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma, will revolutionize the way users access their accounts by providing a secure passkey. This passkey will be assigned to Apple IDs, eliminating the need for passwords. This feature is currently available for those using the latest developer beta on their devices, and users can easily log in to iCloud.com and appleid.apple.com. Not only that, but this feature also enables passwordless login for websites that support “Sign in with Apple.” For sites like PayPal, Shopify, and Kayak that support passkeys, users can effortlessly sign up by scanning a QR code with their iPhone. Trust Apple’s advanced technology to ensure a safe and reliable user experience.
What is a Passkey and How Does it Work?
If you’re not familiar with it, passkeys are a highly secure authentication standard that utilizes Face ID, Touch ID or PIN on a device to log in, eliminating the need to remember login credentials. It’s important to note that passkeys do not replace passwords, but rather serve as an additional option for logging in. Additionally, passkeys are automatically synced across all devices once created. To ensure seamless syncing with current Apple implementation, logging in to these devices with a common Apple ID is required.
Similar Support from Google
Google now offers passkey-based login for Google Accounts, which was recently extended to Chrome on Windows, macOS, and Android. Furthermore, Google has made this feature available to over 9 million organizations, allowing their users to securely sign into Workspace and Google Cloud products using passkeys.
