There we go, face it, social media, it can be a hot mess. You don’t have to look hard to find an outbreak of insults and incendiary comments in continuous escalation. Actor e-tech investor Ashton Kutcher has a deceptively simple way to brake at least a little of that toxicity, and it has to do with the “like pulsante”.
OR, more exactly, an “I don’t like” button.
While social networks make it easy “like”or” heart “a post, there is no parallel function on platforms like Twitter or Instagram. Kutcher argues that a Dislike button would represent a much less volatile expression of disagreement. He believes this would head off A lot of hate on social media.

His thoughts on an “I don’t like” button are just one of many shared in an interview after his appearance at a 5G event hosted by AT&T last week in New York. Kutcher could be best known for its roles in That show from the 70s and Punk’d or, more recently, Netflix’s The Ranch, but it was a tech investor for the last 15 years with smart bets on companies such as Uber, Airbnb, and trading Robinhood app, which is ready to go public after this year. He is also an aspiring astronaut, who he sold his ticket to a Galactic Virgo flight after his wife, actress Mila Kunis, urged him to skip travel.
Since the event, he discussed his interest in 5G, gaming, and its approach to ethical investing. But a question about social media gave Kutcher pause for a moment, eliciting his most thoughtful response.
If we could speak for one moment
Lack of an “antipathy” or “heart” means people will leave comments or reply. And while some of it is a troll and amazingly offensive, much of the comment probably comes from an innocent place, even if the tone or phrasing is heard more aggressive than he is, Kutcher said.
“Different people speak in different ways, “he said.” My wife’s criticisms of me are very different from my criticisms of my wife, not only in content but in the way that we give criticism of one another. And we fought for life. They have just it was for me that I did not understand why she was criticizing me, and she didn’t understand how I was criticizing them, but with love.
“Now, apply it to strangers in general.”
That fundamental misunderstanding and the ability to appreciate the background and context of comments and responses – something you could do better if you talked with them face to face – is the root cause of many controversies that spiral out of control.
“So what happened is that you have this massive escalation and the mafia mentality around that escalation,” Kutcher said. “Then people are beaten”.
Kutcher was among the first to recognize the power of social media, jumping on platforms like Twitter in advance. In those days, the atmosphere was experimental, and you weren’t penalized for saying or asking the wrong thing.
“It was this community where you could prove ideas, “he said.” You didn’t have to be right.
But now, even asking the wrong question can invite a bunch-on. Back in 2011, a tweet from Kutcher on the firing of Penn Been, a long-time football coach Joe Paterno elicited a huge backlash, prompting him to ladder back his use of the platform.

Kutcher also believes people are motivated to comment negatively because this is the best way to draw attention.
“I think the incentive systems have to change if we want social media change, “he said.
5G is exciting
The pandemic has spotlighted the need for better video conferencing, and 5G is ready to deliver on that improved experience. Low latency, quasi-real-response time, and ultra-high resolution video capabilities will be critical. Why do more meetings take place via teleconference?
Kutcher once recalled six years ago when he checked out a superior military video conference system. When asked why it was necessary, the response was, “When are you doing a decision on whether or not to go in war, you want to see if the general he’s sweating, “he said.
With more important decisions over video calls, understand why 5G is this critical. This applies to business and the medical field, where doctors can truly see their patients from a distance.
The low latency and bandwidth improvements on 5G will do it also be key for auto self-driving. Kutcher said he invested in a specialized startup called helm.ai in artificial intelligence for autonomous technologies.
On 5G Gaming

Outside our interview room, AT&T had set up a demonstration of Google Stadia in execution on a Pixel phone connected exclusively to its 5G network. The intent was to show how similar the experience is to a home on a wired computer.
But Kutcher notes it’s not a gamer.
“What excites me more in this regard is the idea that the game no just it must be on screen, “he said, alluding to experiences similar to augmented reality based on Pokemon Go.” The game could be out Here.”
He said that the ultra-reactivity of 5G should also work miracles for virtual reality, eliminating any video lag that the experience uncomfortable.
Invest ethically
Kutcher said looking at the social impact of a potential investment is crucial to your decision to manufacture.
“If we have an indication that there is a secondary or tertiary effect that we can anticipate in proactive and preventive way that is a negative aspect nature, we just wonnon invest, “he said.” I don’t care to do money so much.”
But he noted that many of his companies are in the early stages of their growth. Those companies eventually tend to rotate, making the person in load one of the most important elements of his investments.
“Often, the company in you initially invested in in it’s not the company that gets very big and massive, right? “he said.” Why companies in early stage, especially if they are smart founders, they constantly evolve what the company is.”
