Apple recently unveiled iOS 26 on September 15, introducing exciting features like Liquid Glass and enhanced call and text screening. One of the standout additions is the new Visited Places feature in the Maps app, designed to track locations you frequent—if you choose to enable it.
This feature is particularly useful if you wish to recall that cozy restaurant or unique store you stumbled upon weeks ago. Apple assures users that it cannot access these location records, and any entries can be erased easily if you prefer privacy. Upon updating, Maps will prompt you to enable this feature; however, it’s optional. If you opt in and later want to remove this functionality, here’s how to disable it.
Disabling Visited Places in Maps
1. Open Settings.
2. Tap Apps.
3. Select Maps.
4. Tap Location.
5. Toggle off Visited Places.
Once you disable this option, the Maps app won’t track or log any locations you visit. Initially, you might find it challenging to tap the toggle for Visited Places. However, disabling and re-enabling Precise Location often resolves the issue, allowing you to change the setting.
There’s also an option for Preferred Routes & Predicted Destinations in this menu. Activating this can help the app learn your driving habits and notify you of potential delays or suggest detours. To keep this feature from tracking your driving patterns, simply toggle it off.
Deleting Previous Visited Places
If you’re comfortable with the Visited Places feature but want to manage your history, navigate to Maps > Places > Visited Places. Here, you can easily swipe left on individual entries and tap the trash icon to delete them one at a time. If you prefer to clear everything, select Clear History at the bottom of the menu.

Correction, Sept. 30, 2025: An earlier version of this article mistakenly stated that Visited Places is enabled by default. Users must actively enable this feature on their devices.
