Discord Lets Go of Nearly 40 Employees in Restructuring Efforts
Discord, the popular chat app, has recently laid off around 40 employees, which accounts for approximately 4% of its workforce. This restructuring effort has impacted teams such as marketing, design, and entertainment partnerships, and former employees have taken to social media platforms like Twitter and LinkedIn to share their experiences.
Confirming the layoffs, a Discord spokesperson told Business Insider that the company is dedicated to its long-term growth and is providing support to those affected by the job cuts.
In recent months, Discord has introduced various updates and features to enhance user experience. One notable addition is the Family Center, an opt-in tool designed to keep parents and guardians informed about their children’s activities on the platform. Additionally, Discord now allows users to stream Xbox gameplay directly to servers and direct messages (DMs). Furthermore, the company incorporated OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology into its Clyde bot, enabling users to receive suggestions during group chats.
Moreover, Fidelity, an investment firm, has shown faith in Discord by increasing the value of its holdings, along with popular platform Reddit. This positive development contrasts with June, when Fidelity reduced the valuation of its Discord holdings to $1.7 million, marking a 47% decline since the initial $3.3 million investment in 2021.
