Apple has officially unveiled its latest mobile operating system for iPhones, iOS 26, which started its public beta phase on July 24. Tech enthusiasts eager to experience the new features no longer have to wait until the official release later this year.
The standout visual change is the introduction of the stunning “Liquid Glass” interface. Beyond aesthetics, key enhancements include upgraded Apple Intelligence capabilities, such as real-time translation and an advanced Visual Intelligence search. Additionally, iOS 26 features practical updates for calls and messaging with built-in call screening and in-app polls, enhancing user interaction.
However, not all devices are eligible for this exciting upgrade. iOS 26 mandates a minimum of Apple’s A13 Bionic chip, making some older models incompatible. To ensure your device qualifies, refer to the comprehensive compatibility list below before diving into the beta.
Every iPhone that will get iOS 26
The excluded models this year are the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, meaning users of these devices will miss out on the latest features.
Heads-up: Apple Intelligence isn’t for everyone
While users of the compatible models can install iOS 26, the full benefits of Apple Intelligence require more powerful hardware. Features such as Genmoji, Image Playground, and the new Visual Intelligence search are exclusive to:
- iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16 models
If you’re using an older device, you can still enjoy the new design and essential updates, but features tied to Apple Intelligence won’t be available.
Not sure which iPhone you own?
To identify your iPhone model, navigate to Settings > General > About and check the Model Name. If your phone isn’t listed among the compatible devices, it will continue to receive security updates for iOS 25 for a while, but the fresh features of iOS 26 will be out of reach.
