After installing Android 13, some Google Fi customers can’t get RCS to work on their Pixel phones. Rich Communication Services works fine on Wi-Fi for those who are affected, but when they switch to cellular, Messages just says “Connecting.” in Settings > Chat features.
This problem did not seem to be affecting a large number of Google Fi Pixel 6a phones, T-Mobile Pixel (6 Pro) phones, or Verizon Pixel (6 Pro) phones. Normal things happen when you switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data. After Android 13 came out on Monday, there have been a few reports that RCS doesn’t work on mobile data.
In May, a Google worker said on a forum called Android Issue Tracker that this was a provisioning error and suggested the following steps:
- Turn on airplane mode
- Go to Settings > Storage and clear storage for Carrier Services and Messages
- Turn off airplane mode
- Open Messages and try again
