Google Introduces Five New Updates to Chrome Address Bar for Easier Web Search

Google is introducing five new updates to the Chrome address bar to make it easier to search the web, the tech giant announced on Wednesday. The changes include smarter autocompletion, automatic typo corrections, searches within bookmark folders, suggestions for popular sites and an improved visual layout.

Easier Autocompletion

The Chrome address bar will now autocomplete URLs based on words you have used in the past to search for a website. Previously, the address bar would only autocomplete URLs if you starting typing them from the beginning. For instance, if you wanted to navigate to Google Flights, you had to start typing out Google.com. Now, you can type simply type “flights,” after which the address bar will autocomplete it to “https://www.google.com/travel/flights.”

Automatic Typo Corrections

If you accidentally type out a word wrong or you make a typo, the address bar will now detect it and show you suggestions based on your previously visited websites. This feature saves you the time and effort of correcting your mistakes manually.

Search within Bookmark Folders

Searching within your bookmark folders is now possible directly from the address bar. You no longer need to go through the hassle of navigating to the folder first. Simply type your search query, and the address bar will provide results from your bookmark folders.

Suggestions for Popular Sites

Even if you haven’t visited popular sites before or have mistyped the URL, the address bar will now suggest them to you. When you start typing the name of a popular website, the address bar will display the website’s URL in the list of suggestions. This saves you the step of having to search for the website separately before accessing it.

Improved Visual Layout and Responsiveness

The last change announced today brings an “improved visual layout” to the address bar. Additionally, the address bar is now more responsive and provides faster results as soon as you start typing. These improvements enhance the overall user experience and efficiency of searching the web.
