iOS 26 is nearly here.
The latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system is anticipated to drop next week, coinciding with Apple’s September event. This update promises exciting new features, including a striking “Liquid Glass” aesthetic, enhanced on-device Apple Intelligence capabilities like real-time translation, and smarter Visual Intelligence search. Additionally, users can expect phone and text improvements such as built-in call screening and in-chat polls.
However, not all devices will be eligible for this upgrade.
Every iPhone That Will Get iOS 26
The devices that won’t make the cut this year are the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR.
Heads-Up: Apple Intelligence Isn’t for Everyone
While compatible models can download iOS 26, the new Apple Intelligence features demand more robust hardware. Capabilities like Genmoji, Image Playground, and the revamped Visual Intelligence search will only be accessible on:
- iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16 models
- iPhone 17 models
If you’re using an older device, you’ll still experience the design enhancements and daily updates, but you’ll miss out on the innovative features associated with Apple Intelligence.

Not Sure Which iPhone You Own?
To determine your device model, navigate to Settings > General > About and check the Model Name. If your phone isn’t listed as compatible, it will continue to receive iOS 18 security updates for a limited time, but you won’t have access to any new features introduced in iOS 26.
