Your iPhone is more than just a device for texting and calls; it’s your daily companion for emails, navigation, and more. Having your iPhone battery die unexpectedly is frustrating, especially when you’re out and about. While phone batteries naturally degrade over time, there are practical steps you can take to extend your battery life beyond relying on low power mode.
iOS 18 introduced several features that can inadvertently drain your battery. Thankfully, you can adjust a few key settings to conserve battery life, saving you from the inconvenience of a dead phone during the day. Before considering an upgrade, check your Battery Health in the settings (anything above 80% is good) and disable these three power-hungry features.
Turn Off Widgets on Your iPhone Lock Screen
Your lock screen’s widgets constantly refresh, pulling data to display real-time updates like sports scores or weather forecasts. This background activity drains your battery quicker than you might expect. To improve your battery life on iOS 18, consider opting for a lock screen without widgets.
You can easily switch to a different lock screen profile by pressing down on your current one and swiping to select a widget-free option. If you prefer to keep your existing screen, press down, select Customize, choose the Lock Screen option, and tap the widget box to remove them using the “—” button.
Reduce the Motion of Your iPhone UI
The smooth animations on your iPhone add a touch of elegance, from app transitions to the colorful effects when activating Siri. However, these visual features can also lead to higher battery consumption. To lessen the impact of these animations, enable the Reduce Motion setting.
Simply navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Motion and toggle on Reduce Motion. You’ll still enjoy the iPhone’s sleek interface, just with a bit less strain on your battery.
Switch Off Your iPhone’s Keyboard Vibration
With the introduction of haptic feedback in iOS 16, your iPhone keyboard now vibrates with each tap, offering a more tactile typing experience. While this can enhance your interaction, it can also be a hidden culprit draining your battery.
Apple has noted that enabling haptic feedback on the keyboard might impact battery life; therefore, it’s wise to turn this feature off if conserving power is a priority. If you’ve activated it, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback and toggle off Haptic feedback.
