Organize Your Notes with iOS 18’s Collapsible Sections Now

Apple has recently pulled back the curtain on iOS 26 at its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9, promising a host of exciting updates for iPhone users this fall. Among these updates will be a sleek transparent glass design for icons and menus, which is sure to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the user interface. However, a standout feature from the previous iOS version that many users may still find incredibly useful is the organization capabilities introduced in iOS 18, particularly with the collapsible sections in the Notes app.

These collapsible sections allow users to maintain a tidy and organized Notes experience. Unlike traditional tags that apply to the entire note, this feature aids in organizing content within individual notes, making it effortless to navigate and find specific information. With just a few simple steps, you can create structured sections that help you keep your thoughts and information in check.

How to Create Collapsible Sections in Notes

To get started, follow these easy steps:

1. Open the Notes app.
2. Tap the new note button — the square with a pen — located in the bottom right corner of your screen.
3. Add a title to the note, such as “Weeks of the Month.”
4. Tap the Aa icon in the toolbar at the top of your keyboard. If you don’t see it, tap the plus (+) sign in the upper right corner to access the toolbar.
5. Choose Heading or Subheading to define your sections, like the days of the week.
6. Fill in the information under your headings and subheadings.
7. Tap the space just in front of your headings or subheadings, and a down arrow will appear to the left.
8. Tap that arrow, and everything under the heading or subheading will collapse.

It’s worth noting that while headings do not collapse into each other, subheadings can collapse under their respective headings. Furthermore, if you have multiple titles in a note, everything can collapse under that title, giving you a neat organization for different topics.

This feature has proven invaluable for many users, including myself, as it allows you to track various tasks and schedules without clutter. Whether it’s planning your work week or keeping tabs on upcoming meetings, collapsible sections provide an efficient means to manage your notes and information.

As you familiarize yourself with the organization capabilities of iOS 18, keep an eye out for the enhancements that iOS 26 will bring. With each update, Apple continues to refine the user experience, ensuring that iPhone users remain equipped with tools to maximize productivity and maintain personal organization.
