Apple’s announcement at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9 about the upcoming iOS 26 has stirred excitement among users. Set to launch this fall, it promises an array of features, including a stunning transparent glass design on icons and a revamped interface for the Camera and Photos apps. However, it’s the improvements already introduced in iOS 18 that have many users cheering, particularly the enhanced photo organization feature that allows sorting by date added rather than the original capture date.
Previously, when you saved a photo received from a friend or family member, it would join your existing library based on when it was taken. This meant that a cherished snapshot from last summer could easily vanish among hundreds of newer photos. As a result, finding that image could become a frustrating scavenger hunt through your camera roll.
Now, with the Sort by Recently Added toggle in the Photos app, you can instantly access your most recent saves, regardless of when they were taken. This small yet significant change streamlines the user experience and saves valuable time when searching for images.
How to Sort Your Photos by Date Added
1. Open the Photos app.
2. Scroll up until the grid fills your screen.
3. Tap the up and down arrows located in the bottom-left corner.
4. Select Sort by Recently Added.
Once you apply this sorting method, you’ll notice that your recently added photos adjust accordingly. Whether it’s a group photo from a wedding years back or a spontaneous snapshot from last week, your most recent saves will always be there at your fingertips.
As we anticipate the new features in iOS 26, it’s clear that Apple continues to prioritize user experience. The shift towards easier photo management is just one example of how Apple listens to feedback and enhances the functionalities of its devices.
