Bandai Namco gave the first look at Tekken 8, the next game in their long-running fighting game series, at today’s State of Play.
In the short teaser trailer, Jin Kazama and his father, Kazuya Mishima, fought on a rainy, rocky cliff. Jin could quickly change into Devil form and throw a huge punch afterward. During the battle, massive storms rage behind the fighters, and tornadoes rage in the sea below.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Tekken’s executive producer Katsuhiro Harada confirms that all of the “character models, backgrounds, and effects” seen in the trailer are in-game assets. The scene is from the game’s story mode, but the blog says that what is shown is similar to what players will see during a fight.
“Even though this was taken from the story mode, it is not a pre-rendered movie made for the trailer. Instead, it is real-time rendered footage running at 60 frames per second, which is how you would experience the game versus battle modes.”
The reveal comes after a slight tease at Evo 2022 in August. After the Tekken 7 Grand Finals, a single image of Kazuya’s face and the words “Get ready” were shown.
Tekken 8 is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam at some point in the future. The trailer didn’t show a specific release date or window, though. During the short trailer, we didn’t learn anything about any other characters.
