Telecom Egypt and Mobily sign a memorandum to connect Egypt and Saudi Arabia via a submarine cable

Telecom Egypt and Etihad Etisalat “Mobily” have announced the signing of a strategic memorandum of understanding for the construction of the first direct bilateral submarine cable system that will connect the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The memorandum allows the discussion of new and multiple options to connect international capacities, to the west to Europe via the Telecom Egypt network and to the east to the Persian Gulf via the Mobily network, by extending the networks of the two companies to connect them to a number of neighboring countries today and in future.

The plan for the launch of the new system in submarine cable is in in line with the growing growth of communications traffic between Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

The memorandum was signed in Riyadh by Eng. Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Badran, CEO of Mobily and Eng. Adel Hamed, Managing Director, CEO and Managing Director of Telecom Egypt.
