If you know anything about horror, you know that the Black friend always dies first. The Blackening, a new horror-comedy from Lionsgate, instead asks what happens when all your friends are black. The movie is based on the same-named Comedy Central sketch. It is about a group of friends whose weekend get-together is a nightmare. The movie will make you laugh and slash, and it will also try to break some of the rules of the genre along the way. Tim Story was in charge of making the movie, which Tracy Oliver and Dewayne Perkins wrote. Before The Blackening comes out on June 16, we gather all the information you need to know about the cast, the people who made it, where to watch it, and more.

The Blackening 2 Release Date?
The official start date for The Blackening is June 16, which is Juneteenth weekend. But some theaters will start showing the movie early on Wednesday, June 14, in addition to the usual Thursday night showings before the premiere. It is only shown in theaters before it comes out in digital and physical formats.
Is There a Trailer for Blackening 2?
The first trailer for The Blackening came out on March 1. It gave people their first big idea of what the movie would be like. It starts innocuously enough, with the group arriving at the cabin in the middle of the day, ready to have a fun weekend together. When the power goes out, their fun is cut short. This gives the group their first chance to go against the idea that one person should solve the problem. As they look for the fuse box, they find the game and a scary message to “Save Morgan,” who they just found out is missing. So, they join in, and to start the game, they must choose the Blackest member to kill. Even though they’re in a bad situation, the trailer is funny as the group tries to decide what to do. One friend is safe because he’s gay, and another is trying to prove it’s not him (“I voted for Trump… Twice”). The more violent parts of the story are shown in the second half of the trailer when the group has to split up to protect themselves and find their friend.
On May 17, the second and final trailer for The Blackening came out. Unlike the last one, this one focused on how people reacted during previews. It starts with two friends walking down the hall toward a scary game room, where they and the rest of the group find the game. The trailer shows how the audience reacts as the tension builds and the reveal happens. Most of the movie footage was already shown in the first trailer, which kept cutting to the audience’s reactions at key points. Even though the second trailer tries to get people to see the movie, it does so in a way that says the more people who go, the more fun it will be.
Who is the Director of The Blackening 2?
The same people who made Girls Trip, Barbershop, and other movies made The Blackening. The story for the movie and the script for it were written by Tracy Oliver and Dewayne Perkins. Oliver is famous for writing Girls Trip and the scripts for movies like Little and the version of The Sun Is Also a Star. Oliver recently made, executive produced, and wrote for the second season of the Prime Video show Harlem, which started in February. Perkins has written for shows like The Amber Ruffin Show and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Tim Story was in charge of making The Blackening. The story has made a lot of well-known movies throughout his career, such as Barbershop, Think Like a Man, Shaft (2019), and Ride Along. The Blackening’s score was written by Dexter Story (Eyes of Amhara), and the film was shot by Todd A. Dos Reis (Suburgatory, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend). Oliver, Story, E. Brian Dobbins, Marcei A. Brown, Jason Clark, and Sharla Sumpter Bridgett worked together to make it.
What Is The Plot of The Blackening 2?
The main characters of The Blackening are a group of Black friends who go to a remote cabin in the woods to plan a peaceful Juneteenth getaway. When they find a deeply racist game called “The Blackening,” they get a lot more and a lot worse than they bargained for. Unfortunately, the game has one more catch: a sick killer is behind it all, and the group is now trapped with nowhere to go as they fight for their lives. Even though the movie has some of the main horror tropes, its main goal is to break them. But with an all-Black group of friends, who will die first?
Official Plot
“Being able to take these tropes and find exactly what makes them complex, what gives them depth, and then forcing that in the movie so that when you start watching it, you see what has been in horror movies before and then the goal of the movie is to constantly break down your assumptions of these characters by constantly forcing depth.”
