The younger brother of the San Francisco 49ers backup general C.J. Beathard – Clayton Beathard – was one of two men who had been fatally stabbed during a race early Saturday morning outside a Nashville bar, authorities said.
Police said Clayton Beathard, 22, and Paul Trapeni III, 21, were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where the dead were pronounced dead.

Police said the argument started over a woman in the bar and turned into a bigger fight involving more people outside. Beathard and Trapeni stabbed their sides, according to authorities. A third injured victim was treated and released from hospital. Police say they are looking for suspects in the knives.
The 49ers said they were “shocked and deeply saddened” to hear of Clayton Beathard’s death. The team also released a video in honor of the Beathard family.
San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan started the news after the game about the death of his brother Beathard.
“I just want to say how much we appreciate the Beathard family,” Shanahan said. “What happened last night was very hard on CJ and his family and it was a tragedy. This big family, we have been with CJ for three years and he is as good as any person I was around.
“I’ve never had the opportunity to meet Clay but knowing what his parents are like, knowing what CJ is, knowing the things they told me about him, he was an incredibly special person. And I know his dad came to us with texts , how great everyone is on social media and just the respect that everyone gives to their family. Can’t appreciate it enough but I think everyone understands how horrible the thing that happened to their family last night (was) Prayers we are together t u. “
The 49ers’ locker was emotional after Saturday’s 34-31 win over the Rams.
