Spanish dean of human age, Saturnino de la Fuente Garcia, died at the age of 112 years and 341 days, three weeks before his 113th birthday, the Guinness Book of Records announced Wednesday.
The Spaniard was ranked the oldest person in the world at 112 years and 211 days, according to the London-based organization. Due to his short stature, this 1.5 meter tall Spaniard, born in Puente Castro on February 11, 1909, was not called to fight in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War and managed to found a successful shoe company.
The Spaniard had seven children and 14 grandchildren, as well as 22 great-grandchildren. The record of longevity is still held by Frenchwoman Jeanne Calman, who lived 112 years and 164 days until her death in 1997, according to the site web of the Guinness Book of Records.
