European Parliament president David Sassoli died at the age of 65 in his native Italy at dawn today, Tuesday, according to his spokesperson.
Roberto Coelho stated in a tweet on Twitter that “David Sassoli died on 11 January at 1:15 at the Cancer Reference Center in Aviano, in Italy, where it was in treatment”.
Note that Sassoli was transferred two weeks ago in hospital for the second time in three months due to severe complications from a weak immune system.
Sassoli, an important Italian politician and center-left journalist, was hospitalized in September in hospital for several days for pneumonia.
Sassoli began his television journalistic activity in 1992 as a reporter for Tg3, subsequently he worked on other programs media on Rai Uno and Rai Due, and in 1999 he joined the editorial staff of Tg1 as a special journalist.
Sassoli also focused his work on major national and international events and in 2009 Sassoli joined the newly formed Democratic Party of the Left and was elected to the European Parliament on the party’s list.
