The departure of President Ximin, founder of the modern Chinese renaissance

Former Chinese President Jiang Zemin died yesterday, aged 96, of leukemia and multiple organ failure, according to China’s official news agency. Following the crackdown on the Tiananmen Square protests, observers said claimed that he retained his influence on Chinese life politics even after his official retirement.

When former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping appointed Jiang Zemin as his successor in 1989, China was at the beginning of its economic modernization process. When Jiang stepped down from the presidency in 2003, China became a member of the World Trade Organization .

Analysts believe that the former mayor and Communist Party head of Shanghai, Jiang Zemin, has continued with a small circle of leaders to influence Chinese political life even after his official retirement. Zemin is married to Wang Yiping and they have two children .
