The Flash Release Date
On June 16, 2023, The Flash will speed into theaters. After Shazam: Fury of the Gods, this will be the second DC movie of the year. The film Blue Beetle, Aquaman, and The Lost Kingdom will come before it. We are still determining what will happen in the DC Universe after 2023, but Aquaman writer David Leslie Johnson McGoldrick has already written a sequel to The Flash.
The Flash opened at CinemaCon to much praise, just like recent movies like Top Gun: Maverick and Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
Trailer for The Flash?
In October 2021, we got a sneak peek of the film at DC Fandome. You can watch the preview below.
The first official trailer for The Flash was shown for the first time on February 12th, 2023, during Super Bowl LVII. This came after months of uncertainty, anticipation, and speculation surrounding the show. Since the Super Bowl XL in 2006, this was the first time Warner Bros. had paid for a television commercial to air during the big game. It is possible to view it here:
The trailer not only gives us our best look yet at the highly anticipated return of Michael Keaton as Batman, but it also confirms the return of Ben Affleck’s Batman, Michael Shannon’s General Zod, and the cinematic debut of Sasha Calle’s Supergirl. The nearly three-minute-long trailer not only provides a sneak peek at some of the film’s major action sequences but it also highlights the parallels to Flashpoint.
During CinemaCon 2023, the second trailer for “The Flash” was shown for the first time. This trailer gives us a better look at Barry Allen as he begins comprehending the world he created. Michael Keaton delivers one of his famous one-liners, and Supergirl’s rage continues unabated. Things have gotten out of hand in this adventure that spans multiple dimensions.
Is The Flash Connected to the Other DC Films?
The Flash movie takes place in the world of DC Comics. It is related to the film Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Aquaman, Shazam, Birds of Prey, Black Adam, and The Suicide Squad. It has nothing to do with The Batman or The Joker, who live in their universes.
That said, James Gunn and Peter Safran are bringing the DC Universe into a new era. Many of the most famous characters, like Superman and Batman, are being played by new actors. This may sound problematic, but Gunn explained how the new movie would fit into his DCU.
“So, how can we take these things together and make them make sense and have them unified and have it one real universe?…I think that we’ve gotten lucky with the next four movies, frankly, because we have Shazam, which leads into Flash, which resets everything which then goes into Blue Beetle, which is totally disconnected…But the one thing that we can promise is that everything from…our first project forward, will be canon, and will be connected. We’re using some actors from the past, we’re not using other actors from the past. But everything from that moment forward will be connected and consistent.”
Comic Book History
The Flash is a movie based on the same-named comic book character. Barry Allen is a forensic scientist who gets superpowers after being hit by lightning and falling onto a shelf of chemicals. Allen is the second person to become The Flash. The first was Jay Garrick, a Justice Society of America member. Wally West, a founding member of the Teen Titans and a core member of the Justice League, is the third.
After getting super speed, Barry Allen uses his powers for good and protects Central City from his large group of bad guys. The Scarlet Speedster becomes a founding member of the Justice League, best friends with Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), and a key player in almost every major event in DC Comics.
In Flashpoint, a series by Geoff Johns, Barry returns to stop his mother from being killed. This is one of Barry’s most important stories. This causes a ripple in time, bringing about the world’s end. Now, Barry has to put things right and find a way to reset the timeline before it’s too late.
The Flash movie is based on Flashpoint, and different parts of that story will be used. The first change is that Michael Keaton plays Batman instead of Ben Affleck. Also, Sasha Calle will likely take over Superman’s part in the story.
Will The Flash Movie Tie Into the TV Series?
On The CW, the ninth and final season of The Flash television series is almost ready to begin airing. During the crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earth,” which took place in the year 2020, Ezra Miller’s version of The Flash did meet Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen. Even though the upcoming Flash movie will feature multiple incarnations of Batman and multiple versions of Barry Allen himself, it appears unlikely that the two heroes will meet each other again. Finally addressing the issue, Gustin responded as follows:
No. There’s been a lot of rumors out there for a long time, and no one’s come out directly and asked me, ever, on the record. You know, people ask me on the street all the time and, yeah, I’m not keeping some big elaborate secret.
Will The Flash Be Available on Streaming?
In 2020, Warner Bros. made all of their film titles simultaneously available on HBO Max and in theaters across the country. Later, in the year 2021, the production company switched to a 45-day release window, during which time the movies were exclusively shown in theaters for about a month and a half. As of 2022, the company has gradually returned to the status quo previously in place. Before a movie is available on HBO Max, it typically takes at least three months after its release. It is reasonable to assume that if The Flash is a commercial success, the movie will be available for streaming at the earliest, October.
