On Super Bowl Sunday, moviegoers got to see exciting new trailers for many of the big movies coming out this year. This includes The Flash, which has been talked about for a long time and comes out in June. The Flashpoint-inspired story, the return of old DC stars like Michael Keaton’s Batman, and the debut of Sasha Calle’s Supergirl were all hinted at in the trailer. Now that the official plot summary for the superhero epic is out, we can learn more about how The Flash failed to save his mother.
The Movie’s new official plot Is:
“Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?”
Flashpoint, More Batmen, and a New Girl of Steel
There is a lot to figure out in these new juicy plot details, but the most important thing to remember is that this movie is heavily based on the original Flashpoint story. In that comic, The Flash broke the rules of reality and went to a world where Bruce Wayne died in Crime Alley, turning Thomas Wayne into a murderous Batman and Martha Wayne into a version of the Joker. But Keaton’s famous take on The Dark Knight takes the place of Thomas Wayne in the movie. We saw a lot of Keaton and Ben Affleck’s Cape Crusader in the trailer. A powerless Kryptonian is another part of the Flashpoint plot that this synopsis and new trailer hint at. But Superman was in the comic, but Supergirl was in The Flash instead of her cousin. The last time the Girl of Steel was on the big screen was in 1984.
Along with Ezra Miller’s Flash and Ben Affleck’s Batman, this movie has a lot of Snyderverse connections. Barry will end up in a world where General Zod won the battle in 2013’s Man of Steel. That means Michael Shannon’s version of the bad guy is still alive and well. Even though many fans didn’t get the Man of Steel sequel they wanted, Zod’s big comeback is a great way to end the world that director Zack Snyder created ten years ago.
The Flash will speed into theatres on June 16, 2023. James Gunn, the new co-CEO of DC Studios, is one of the many people who think it is one of the best superhero movies ever made. After seeing the trailer and reading this crazy, multiverse-sized summary, it’s not hard to see why. While we wait for the DC Multiverse to come together, you can watch the new Flash Super Bowl trailer down below.
