Veteran Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has joined the club French on Wednesday, after the expiration of his contract with the Bavarian giant.
The 32-year-old, who won the 2014 World Cup with Germany, has agreed to join Lyon on a two-year contract.
The German defender played a key role in Bayern’s defense for ten years, during which time the team won nine consecutive German league titles, playing 229 games. He participated in 29 matches in the German league last season.
And Boateng will be in Lyon, which hasn’t won the French championship since 2008, to replace the Brazilian Marcelo, held in on the bench after “inappropriate behavior” after the 3-0 defeat against Angers in the second stage of the tournament last August.
