The Greatest Showman topped by musical classic in UK poll of best movie soundtracks

After proving doubting critics wrong, The Greatest Showman went on to be a surprise hit following its Christmas 2017 release. Early the next year, the film topped the UK box office and saw fans returning in their droves for sing-a-longs, plus the album went on top the charts around the world. But despite all that success, the Hugh Jackman musical is not quite the UK’s favourite movie soundtrack of all time.

To celebrate the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Showcase Cinemas surveyed 2000 Brits last month.

And nearly a quarter of UK fans voted for John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John’s hit musical Grease to the top spot.

Just behind was Dirty Dancing and ABBA movie sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

The research also found that 1 in 3 Brits believe the James Bond theme to be the most recognisable movie song.

Just behind was Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On from Titanic and the Jaws theme in third place.

Additionally, the survey discovered that 7 in 10 Brits think a decent movie soundtrack is important to them, but just 1 in 5 think it doesn’t matter when it came to enjoying a film.

As for the UK’s favourite movie songs of all time, it was The Bodyguard that came out on top.
