The head of the African Union intends to visit Moscow and Kiev for mediation

Senegalese President Macky Sall, head of the African Union, announced today Sunday that he will soon visit Russia and Ukraine.

Has explained in a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, which the visit was supposed to take place on 18 May, but did not take place due to problems with the program and new dates have been set.

Furthermore, the head of the African Union added that he had obtained authorization from the union to carry out the trip that Russia had invited, and that this will take place in the coming weeks, according to “AFP”.

Sall confirmed that as soon as the date is set, he will travel to Moscow and Kiev. the need to communicate with African heads of state, “said Sall.

It is noteworthy that the negotiations of pace between Russia and Ukraine are in stall since last April, while each of them blamed the other side.
But there have been no significant contacts between the two sides in recent weeks.

Negotiations falter

While Moscow insists on disarming Kiev and protecting Russian speakers in eastern Ukraine, as well as preventing it from joining NATO, Kiev adheres to its independence and the protection of its territory, demanding international security guarantees that prevent any future Russian attacks.

It also refuses to give up any land “occupied” by Russian forces.

The last meeting between the Russian delegations, led by Vladimir Medinsky, and the Ukrainian one, led by David Arakhamia, took place on April 22, according to what was confirmed at the time by Russian official agencies.

It is noteworthy that since the launch of the Russian operation on the territory of the western neighbor on February 24, several have taken place round of interviews, directly or via Internet, but they have not come to understandings that lead to a permanent armistice and foundations for a solution between the two countries.
