The Houthis have committed two-thirds … 35,000 violations against Yemeni children

A human rights report states that more than 35,000 cases of violations were committed against children in Yemen during the war years, noting that two-thirds of these violations were committed by the Houthi terrorist militia.

The SAM Organization for Rights and Freedoms said in a recent report that the parties in conflict have committed more than 35,000 cases of violations against children, 70% of which were committed by the Houthi militia.

The organization indicated the killing of more than 5,700 children has been documented in Yemen, the largest number of which fell in the city of Taiz, with 1,100 children, where most of the victims were children as a result of the bombing of the Houthi militia. It indicated that approximately 8,310 children were injured, including 4,250 children, most of whom were killed as a result of indiscriminate Houthi bombing.

He stressed that “the Houthi militia is accused of having recruited more than 20,000 children and involved them in the armed conflict, as well as being responsible for 797 kidnapping cases out of 888 kidnapping cases of children”.

He said: “Yemeni children – in especially the children of Taiz, who have suffered from a severe and continuous siege for seven years – they still hope that the day will come in which will enjoy their most basic rights “.

The report attributed the decline in child rights protection indicators in Yemen in general and in Taiz in notably the Houthi group’s insistence on collective punishment of civilians in Taiz governorate, including children, and failure to comply with international humanitarian norms in the war, where schools, hospitals, markets and children’s playgrounds were subjected to indiscriminate bombings.

He stressed that “children in Taiz have been subjected to deliberate sniping, killing hundreds of children, in addition to the continued closure of roads to and from the city, which has doubled the violation of freedom of movement and increased the suffering of children. in movement, and created a permanent state of fear among the children, which in turn led to an increase in psychological trauma.

According to the report, “more than 12,000 children suffer from malnutrition and around two million children are deprived of education due to the conflict. in course in Yemen, and the armed conflict has led to the forced displacement of about one million children, which seriously aggravates the suffering of Yemeni children ”.
