“The Joker Rebranded: DC Unveils a New Name”

DC Comics has introduced a new version of The Joker in a non-canonical backup story, “The Man Who Stopped Laughing #6”. The story reveals that the real name of this version of The Joker is Ralph, a man whose life changes when his twin brother, Edward, is killed and eaten by Man-Bat. Edward had been Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime and had left a will asking Ralph to carry on as The Joker. Ralph accepts the role and even declares that he enjoys being a villain. While this story exists outside of DC’s regular continuity, the publisher had previously revealed the canonical name of The Joker in “Flashpoint Beyond #5”; in this version, his name is Jack Oswald White. “The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #6” is now available from DC.
