The Kremlin: Western tanks will “burn” if they are handed over in Ukraine

The Kremlin announced on Wednesday that if Western countries supply Ukraine with heavy tanks, these mechanisms will be destroyed on the battlefield, in one moment in where Kiev is in waiting for a decision from Berlin on the delivery of Leopard-2 tanks. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters: “”Technologically, the plan is a failure. This is an overestimation of the capabilities that will be added to the Ukrainian army. These tanks will burn like any other. They are just too expensive.” This comes as both the United States and Germany plan to send tanks in Ukraine after months of discussions, according to reports from media.

US President Joe Biden’s administration is expected to announce plans to send dozens of M1 Abrams tanks. The German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, has reportedly decided to send no fewer than 14 Leopard 2 tanks.

Privately, German officials insisted they would agree to the transfer of Leopard 2 in Ukraine only if the US also sent the M1 Abrams. Officials in both countries have denied any connection between the two possible moves, according to reports from the media Americans.

At least 16 European and NATO countries own Leopard 2 tanks, according to the International Institute for strategic studies. Ukrainian officials said the potential shipments could have a significant impact on the battlefield against the Russians. Interestingly, Britain has pledged to send 14 Challenger tanks in Ukraine and France is considering sending some of its “Leclerc” tanks.
