The “long-distance eagle” is still in the NFL’s playoff picture, even though Doug Pederson doesn’t sound convincing

The Eagles lost a two-game win over the Dolphins on Sunday when they had the opportunity to beat the Cowboys for the NFC East victory.

After the game, Bird Coach Doug Pederson did not immediately realize that his team was somehow controlling his destiny.

“As crazy as that is, I’d say it’s a distant plan, but we’re not out of it,” he told reporters.

NFL PLAYOFF PICTURE: AFC, NFC Ranking for Week 13

It’s not that long. To edit: The eagles are 5-7. The Cowboys are 6-6. This is a difference of four weeks to play and there is a Philly headline in Week 16.

Sorry, coach, keep going:

“We have four of our opponents in the division,” he said, perhaps trying to talk to believe.

Yes, let’s talk about this division. It’s the very bad NFC East, held by the Redskins and Giants, who are 5-19 combined. The Eagles play twice for the Giants and the Redskins once except for the Cowboys in the final quarter of the season. A 4-0 shutout takes the Eagles to 9-7 overall and 5-1 in the division (and a split in the season series with Dallas). Assuming the Cowboys also finish 9-7 / 5-1, then the next tiebreaker will be regular opponents.

Here’s the advantage going to the Eagles. Philadelphia would be 8-4 against the common enemies in the Cowboys 7-5.

Putting all the math aside, playing the Giants and Redskins is about the easiest way a desperate team can have in the playoffs. Of course, a trip to the Miami Gardens was considered easy, but still.

And if the Birds CANNOT run the table with this slate, then Pederson should be in danger of being fired. One way could be to leave the facility: on foot, and so a group of fans wanted the team to return from South Florida on Sunday. The team went so far as to report. . . someone to make the birds a shame in their home.

Many Eagles should feel ashamed if they stumble anywhere in the next four weeks.
