After a season which presented the unmasking of a music icon (Patti Labelle), four-time Grammy winner (Seal), and many famous faces from all fields of entertainment, The Masked Singer broadcast its finale of the season this week and exposed the three finalists – Flamingo, Rottweiler and Fox – while crowning a winner. Who were the celebrities who were unmasked in the final and who won the Golden Mask trophy?
Flamingo was the last singer in the competition, and she performed the Tina Turner version of Proud Mary while demonstrating the confidence she has gained this season as a singer and performer. She finished third, and judges Robin Thicke, Nicole Scherzinger and Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg – and the rest of the internet – knew exactly who she was: former Cheetah Girl and Real co-host Adrienne Bailon.
In second place, Rottweiler presented his strong and amazing voice throughout the season. He chose Sia’s hit, Alive, for his last performance, and the Rottweiler did not disappoint. For some reason, the judges just couldn’t determine who was under the mask, as Thicke and Scherzinger continued to land on Glee’s former Darren Criss, McCarthy-Wahlberg went with Jason Mraz and Ken Jeong guessed actor Dave Franco.
But, all the old school fans of American Idol on the planet knew from day one that the unmistakable voice of the Rottweiler belonged to Chris Daughtry.
This means that the winner of Season 2 of The Masked Singer was Fox, who performed Otis Redding’s Try A Little Tenderness – with a rap amid all the assumptions the judges made about his identity this season.
Some fans may have noticed that the Fox twice said the name of one of the judges during his rap, which revealed his identity – the Whose Line Is It Anyway star and the host of Let’s Make A Deal. Wayne Brady.
Thicke and Scherzinger guessed Brady, while McCarthy-Wahlberg and Jeong couldn’t give up the idea that Jamie Foxx was in Fox’s mask. But it would have been too much on the nose.
When host Nick Cannon helped his longtime friend remove his mask, the Emmy-winning Brady looked at him and said, “I wanted to tell you so much!” To close the show, Brady, incredibly talented, sang parts of Try A Little Tenderness without the mask, and also added a freestyle rap to Cannon and the panel of judges to show how brilliant he is with lyrics on the fly.
Season 3 of The Masked Singer kicks off after the February 2 Super Bowl.
